The Black costume first appeared in the Secret Wars mini-series, which saw Spider-Man battle The Beyonder on a distant planet. When trying to create a new costume to replace his much-torn iconic red and blue outfit, he had trouble finding the right machine, and stepped into a chamber which released a black blob, which covered his body.. This new guise has the power to transform into streetwear, and is able to shoot webbing, though it has a tendancy to act symbiotically, as it is crafted from a living organism.
