A key amphibious vehicle for carrying troops, light vehicles and other essential supplies from ship to shore during the battles of WWII. The LVT-4 Buffalo was used by US, British and Canadian forces all through the engagements in the Pacific and in Northern Europe.
This Landing Vehicle Tracked or LVT was introduced by the United States Navy and was by far the most numerous version used, with over 8,000 vehicles produced. Although conceived to ferry supplies from ship to shore, the LVTs were quickly pressed into service as assault and fire support vehicles in their own right and used for many beach landing invasions. Troops quickly nicknamed the LVTs as amtrac as a shortening of amphibious tractor. This transport disgorged its cargo from a large ramp door that was located to the rear of the vehicle, meaning this LVT gave its passengers a far higher chance of surviving initial contact with the enemy than other landing craft with frontal door ramps.
This set contains one highly detailed miniature with metal and resin components.
